Volkswagen CV sales declined year on year by 6.6 per cent in Western Europe, and 9.6 percent in Eastern Europe, but increased by 0.2 per cent worldwide in the first six months of 2013.
It said the fact that the commercial vehicles market is shrinking in many European countries, due to the economic crisis, has had an impact on the brand’s sales.
Worldwide sales were 270,700, an increase of 0.2 per cent on 270,100 in the same period in 2012.
Volkswagen said these gains made around the world, primarily in South America, have managed to balance out Europe’s weakness.
“We are aware that the European markets will be characterised by uncertainty again during the second half of the year, but we will tackle this challenge with confidence,” said Bram Schot, member of the board of management Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for sales and marketing.
