Russell Mears will succeed Peter Maybury as the Freightliner Group’s group chief executive, from 30 September, when Maybury will retire from his position but remain with the company as chairman.
Currently working as chief financial officer, Mears has been with the Freightliner Group since 1996. He said: “I believe that with the strength of management at all levels of the business, we have the potential to not only maintain a strong UK market presence, but also develop international opportunities.
“I look forward to Peter’s continued support in his new role as chairman, I want to thank him for the way in which he has guided Freightliner Group during the last four years, despite a very challenging macro-economic climate.”
Having joined the group in 1997, Maybury worked as managing director of its intermodal business before becoming chief executive in 2009.
He said: “I know Freightliner is in safe hands with Russell and will continue to flourish despite the challenging trading conditions that exist in all the markets we serve.”
