Royal Mail is opening ten temporary parcel sort centres for the Christmas peak, and recruiting around 4,000 seasonal workers on a phased basis from 4th November.
This is the third year it will run the temporary sites in Motherwell, Livingston, Leeds, Heywood in Greater Manchester, Tamworth, Llantrisant in South Wales, Swindon, Greenford, Peterborough and Northampton.
The staff for the temporary sites will form just a part of Royal Mail’s massive recruitment drive for some 21,000 additional seasonal workers.
Mark Higson, managing director of operations and modernisation, said: “Christmas is the busiest time of year for Royal Mail and our customers. Royal Mail has invested in ten temporary parcel sort centres to increase our scale and improve our flexibility during this important time of year for our customers.
“The use of additional parcel sort centres has proved extremely successful the past two years. They are now an integral part of Royal Mail’s substantial financial commitment in additional resources at Christmas to handle the festive mail bag as effectively as possible.”
