UK agent for French motorway company Eurotoll, Harbour Shipping, is urging UK companies to not delay registering for the new Ecotaxe if they wish to use the French national road network.
All vehicles in excess of 3.5 tonnes must apply for the road tax, which will be levied from January 2014.
Harbour Shipping said those waiting until December to register will experience lengthy delays, and face not being able to use their vehicles in France from January 1st.
“We urge companies to complete the registration process now as there are still almost 800,000 vehicles to be registered before the turn of the year,” said Harbour Shipping’s Alan Boxall.
“To risk leaving registration of vehicles until December, we believe, will lead to transporters not receiving their units in time and, therefore, unable to use the French road network from January 1st. At present, the registration process can take up to five weeks to complete.”
