City Link has opened a 64,000 sq ft depot in Southampton, which is 30 per cent larger than its previous site in Kites Croft, to enable the company to expand its operations in the region.
Based in the Fareham Industrial Park, the new depot handles a range of products, from high tech components and bicycles, to medical equipment and surfboards.
It employs 77 staff, including two apprentices, operates 56 collection and delivery vehicles, and handles 4,200 consignments a night.
Having invested £500,000 into the facility, City Link said the increased size of the warehouse means that all vehicles can be loaded and unloaded indoors, enhancing the security and protection of parcels.
“Although still early days, the move has already made a substantial difference to our operation,” said depot manager, Marc Carson.
