The Department for Transport is seeking industry views on its recently announced secondary legislation relating to the HGV Road User Levy Act 2013.
The government is introducing a new levy to charge all lorries weighing 12 tonnes or more to use the UK road network, which is due to be put in place from April 2014.
It will see UK registered vehicles pay the charge alongside their vehicle excise duty, and all vehicles registered outside the UK having to pay before entering the country.
It aims to ensure all 12 tonne or more HGVs contribute toward the wear and tear of the UK road network.
The Department for Transport has announced plans to introduce new secondary legislation relating to the Act, for which it is now holding a consultation on plans in two subject areas; financial deposits and penalties, and vehicle construction and use.
The consultation period will now run for six weeks, until November 7 2013.
