Waitrose has signed a lease with developer Evander Properties for a 90,000 sq ft e-fulfilment centre in Coulsdon, South London.
It is investing more than £30 million in the dark store which is employ some 600 people.
Evander will commence construction of the Coulsdon facility in January and is expected to deliver the retailer’s first bespoke distribution centre dedicated to on-line orders in Q4 2014.
The deal was signed at the start of October after a complex site assembly and acquisition process. Evander is backed by British Airways Pension Fund who will own the completed development.
Evander also built the retailer’s 420,000 sq ft north west regional distribution centre in April 2012 at Matrix Park in Chorley, Lancashire.
