Shell is launching two on-board electronic payment solutions for the upcoming Ecotax in France, to help both frequent and occasional transport fleet drivers in the country.
From January 2014, all HGVs weighing more than 3.5 tonnes travelling through France, using 10,000km of regional roads and highways and 5,000km of local roads, will be made to pay the new tax.
Shell will then introduce its InterRoute Plus system to frequent travellers. It says the post-paid device will calculate Ecotax and motorway tolls in France, bringing all transactions through to a single source, for better convenience.
The French government will offer a ten per cent rebate to all drivers who use the post-payment method.
Shell is also launching its prepaid Ecomouv on-board electronic device to occasional travellers, which can be collected from Ecomouv distribution points at 56 Shell sites in France, and neighbouring borders.
“By providing two payment options for Ecotax, which are both compatible with the secure euroShell card, our customers can benefit from solutions that offer convenience, control, security, and savings in a quick and easy fashion,” said partners manager, Andreas Grobler.
