schuh is opening a European distribution centre in Scotland next summer, which it says is five times larger than its current warehouse there.
The facility will be located on its recently acquired 245,000 sq ft site at the J4M8 complex in Bathgate, and is set to create more than 50 jobs over the next five years.
Owing to recent growth and future expansion plans of the schuh store estate and online offering, the company said it needed to extend its Neilson Square distribution centre, in Livingston.
“Various sites were investigated throughout the UK, however we are keen to remain within Scotland, in particular West Lothian, where our head office and existing centre are currently based,” said a schuh spokesperson.
Having worked with West Lothian Council and consulted with Scottish Enterprise during the search to find a new site, the company was awarded a fund by the Bank of Scotland, to fund the acquisition and fit out J4M8.
