Asda has awarded SDI Group a three-year £2 million contract to maintain all three of its George at Asda’s UK automated distribution centres, in Lymedale, Brackmills, and Washington.
The deal will see SDI Group take responsibility for the 24/7 maintenance of all materials handling equipment at the three sites, including the maintenance of systems installed by other automated systems providers.
“As a retail business our focus is not engineering. Outsourcing maintenance to SDI Group allows us to focus on our core business, confident in the knowledge that our automated fulfilment operations will be run to close-on 100 per cent efficiency levels,” said head of network development for Asda Distribution, Ant Everett.
The move follows a ten-year relationship between the two companies, where SDI Group has previously rolled out a phased development programme of automated systems, at the Lymedale facility.
