City Link is taking 86 double-deck trailers on a seven-year full service contract from Fraikin.
City Link’s investment comes as part of its company modernisation programme, put in place after its acquisition by Better Capital in April this year.
The first 20 vehicles are being delivered throughout the Christmas peak. The roll-out will then continue until the end of January 2014, replacing City Link’s existing fleet.
The company said the Cartwright trailers are smaller than conventional double deckers, running at a height of 4,635mm instead of 4,880mm, to suit the company’s specific operational needs.
“In line with our environmental aims the trailers are fuel-efficient and will help us improve efficiency, but their cutting-edge design will also speed up our deliveries- improving our overall customer service quality,” said operations director at City Link, Adele Henderson.
Once the double-deck trailers have been replaced within its fleet, City Link said the next phase within its fleet replenishment programme will be single-deck trailers.
