Debenhams has taken on DHL Supply Chain to handle its online orders this Christmas, with demand increasing by an average of 250 per cent, or 300 per cent during peak ordering times.
This year, Debenhams said mobile sales are proving a strong growth area, with online sales up around 40 per cent on 2012.
DHL is managing some 150,000 product lines for the retailer throughout the festive period, operating its Sherburn and Peterborough warehouses 24/7.
The company also took on an additional 2,000 members of staff at its fulfilment centres, to cope with high demand, equalling an uplift of 400 per cent on normal staffing levels.
Of all Debenhams’ online products, DHL said the most popular this season have been Calvin Klein men’s underwear, the Vtech Playtime Bus, and Hello Kitty’s body art transfer set and beauty box.
