TVS Supply Chain Solutions has opened a new defence warehouse in Oxfordshire to meet the Ministry of Defence’s requirement for additional storage space in preparation for the withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan.
The company’s previous defence warehouse operation was situated in Bicester, at a “behind-the-wire” Ministry of Defence facility.
But prompted by the MoD’s need for additional storage space, TVS made the move to the new 44,000 sq ft site, at the nearby Murdoch Road Industrial Estate.
The facility will house more than £10 million of inventory, 14,000 parts lines, 250,000 individual parts, and some 18,000 pieces of equipment.
“We have made the decision to further invest in our Bicester capabilities, to ensure we deliver vital parts scheduled for front line operations, often within a two-hour timeframe from order to receipt,” said director of defence at TVS Supply Chain Solutions, Irene Ainscough.
“We have signed a ten-year lease on the building, which signifies our continuing commitment to further investment in our warehousing infrastructure and support for clients in the defence sector.”
TVS provides end-to-end supply chain services for the automotive, beverage, manufacturing, and defence markets worldwide. It has been working with the Ministry of Defence for nearly a century. The opening of the facility brings the company’s total number of UK sites to six.
