Royal Mail plans to cut 1,600 managerial jobs in a move designed to save some £50 million a year. The net reduction will be 1,300 as it plans to create 300 new or enhanced roles.
It is now consulting with the Communications Workers Union and Unite on the changes.
The vast majority of employees affected will be in the group’s operational and head office managerial population. It said there would be no impact on frontline employees, including postmen and women.
And it said, GLS, the European, ground-based parcels delivery company, is not affected by these changes.
