Screwfix has got the go-ahead to double the size of its Trentham Lakes distribution centre near Stoke-on-Trent.
Director of supply chain Richard Sutcliffe said: “Screwfix has continued to go from strength to strength over the last 12 months. We strive continually to evolve our innovative and multi-channel retail model to ensure it provides high quality products as conveniently as possible for busy tradesmen on the move. Our industry leading next day delivery service has played a central role in this offering, so we are delighted to be able to further enhance the service across the group with the expansion of our warehouse.”
Screwfix’s year-on-year sales were up 24.2 per cent to 3rd May this year and much of its success is being driven by its multichannel service which includes Click, Pay & Collect which accounts for 80 per cent of all sales via mobile media.
The £18m extension will be carried out in agreement with landlord M&G Real Estate in partnership with developer St Modwen. The building will increase in size from 320,000 sq ft to 630,000 sq ft and will comprise warehouse space, ancillary offices and enclosed loading facilities. The extension work is due to start in August 2014 and is expected to take 12 months.
Trentham Lakes is favoured for the strength of its excellent highway connections, following the extension of the A50 in the 1990s, attracting numerous logistics operations to relocate to Stoke-on-Trent.
Knight Frank represented Screwfix. M&G Real Estate and St. Modwen were unrepresented.
