The host for the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2014 has been revealed.
The awards dinner, which takes place at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Wednesday 5th November will be hosted by England rugby international Martin Bayfield.
At 6’10” Bayfield was one of the tallest men in rugby, a gift he used to full advantage as one of England’s most potent forwards.
After retiring, his height helped him secure the part of Robbie Coltrane’s body double as the giant Hagrid in the Harry Potter films.
On the field Martin enjoyed a successful international career, winning 31 England caps and two Grand Slams.
He’s since become an established member of the BBC commentary team, fronted NFL coverage and The World’s Strongest Man, and joined the presenting team on Crimewatch.
Companies have until 4th July to complete and submit their entries for the 2014 Awards which celebrate the very best of our industry.
The Awards are the gold standard of supply chain achievement and winners include some of Europe’s leading companies such as Vodafone, BASF, Danone Baby Nutrition and GlaxoSmithKline.
The European Supply Chain Excellence Awards are organised by Supply Chain Standard in association with PwC.
A new award this year, ‘Austere Environments and Contingency Logistics’, will recognise the extraordinary achievements of logisticians working in particularly difficult conditions – disaster response, aid provision or support for military operations.
In 2013, the overall winner was Jaguar Land Rover with Unipart Logistics, which fought off strong competition from Telefónica UK and Argos to take the title.
The Individual Contribution award went to Dino Rocos, operations director at John Lewis Partnership, whose bold vision to centralise fulfilment – including the emerging new channels for online shopping – was ahead of its time.
And DHL Supply Chain scooped the 3PL of the year award in recognition of its work with Telefónica UK and Debenhams.
