Morrisons is opening a new distribution operation in Bridgwater to support the expansion of its M local convenience business further into the South West and South Wales.
The 95,000 sq ft facility will be part of Morrisons existing Bridgwater site and an extension of the current produce picking operation which takes place there, in close proximity to Willow Green, Morrisons’ regional distribution centre.
The existing building will be modified to ensure maximum care for the fresh products which will be delivered out to our M local convenience stores.
As the operation moves towards full capacity, up to 50 new jobs will be created. It is anticipated that these jobs will be recruited locally.
It will have the ability to serve up to 100 M local stores and opens as the supermarket prepares to expand the number of its stores in the region in addition to the ten it already has there, including in Royal Wootton Bassett and Bath. It will also support Morrisons’ convenience distribution centre in Feltham during busy periods.
John Passman, head of multi-channel distribution and infrastructure, said: “We already have picking and distribution expertise at Bridgwater, and it makes commercial sense to leverage that expertise to support the growth of our convenience business in the region“.
The site will be operated by Morrisons logistics partner, DHL, who already operate the Willow Green regional distribution centre.
