Wolseley UK has moved into a new 142, 358 sq. ft. distribution centre in Measham near Burton upon Trent. Wolseley UK is part of Wolseley plc, the specialist distributor of plumbing and heating products.
The move to the new centre is a significant investment by the company into Wolseley UK’s logistics infrastructure. The centre has been fitted with the latest warehouse technology, including an automated tube storage system and narrow aisle trucks that work directly with Measham’s warehouse management system. The warehouse management system will automatically direct the operators and their trucks to the required location. The new site can accommodate growth and gives Wolseley the potential to install a new pipe storage system.
A spokesperson has said that the new distribution centre will “be supplying our Pipe Center branches based across the UK, significantly increasing our delivery capabilities and giving us the ability to deliver across the entire network on a next-day basis.”
The move to Measham comes after the lease expired on Wolseley’s previous distribution centre in West Horndon.
The new distribution centre will create fifty new jobs in the region. Nicki Hanson, who joins from Gist where she was site operations manager, will manage the Measham distribution centre.
