DHL opens Leipzig pharma centre
DHL Global Forwarding has officially opened a logistics centre measuring more than 9,000 sq ft for the pharmaceutical industry at Leipzig/Halle Airport to expand its temperature-controlled business.
The new facility comprised of 7,135 sq ft of warehousing space and 1,968 sq ft of office space, features two temperature-controlled areas for pharmaceutical products that must be kept at between two to eight degrees or 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. The facility, operated by DHL Thermonet, has been certified in accordance with good distribution practice guidelines.
More than €3m has been invested in the centre, which was designed by DHL Global Forwarding and its customer Octapharma to manage the transport and warehousing of airfreight shipments. In addition to its primary functions, the centre will serve as a transhipment hub for pharmaceuticals going to Germany, Poland and Slovakia, Thirty jobs have been created to service the facility.
The facility has also been audited in line with additional standards and been accredited as a qualified envirotainer provider, thus ensuring competent handling of Envirotainer containers and certification in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards for quality and environmental management.
