Amazon is to create 1,000 new permanent roles at its UK fulfilment centres, adding to the 2,000 new roles it has created in the past two years.
The online store has a workforce of 6,000 permanent employees across its eight UK fulfilment centres. Added investment from Amazon has led to the introduction of Sunday delivery across seven UK cities, and it has expanded its click and collect services.
John Tagawa, director of UK operations at Amazon, said: “We have continued to focus day in, day out on providing the very best shopping experience for our customers and as we see greater demand, we are able to rapidly grow our talented team across the UK.”
Employees at Amazon work four ten-hour shifts per week, which Amazon claims saves employees time and money.
