Tate & Lyle Sugars has enlisted Harlequin Logistics to transport stock between its Silvertown production site and warehouses across the UK.
Nic Miller, Tate & Lyle’s contract and development manager, said: “We have worked with Harlequin shareholder Prestons of Potto for some time, and when they introduced us to Harlequin we quickly realised it was a good fit for us. Because they almost never sub-contract a load, Harlequin provides us with consistent, reliable service across the whole UK, without regional weakness.”
Harlequin operates 1,200 general haulage vehicles. Managing director Paul Smith said that this allows the firm to provide a reliable and flexible service.
Tate & Lyle recorded a 40 per cent year-on-year downturn in adjusted profit before tax, with sales down 21 per cent, for the six months to 30 September 2014.
