Logistics provider Norbert Dentressangle and furnishings retailer Ikea have opened a new distribution centre in Peterborough. The 86,000sq m centre is the fourth to be operated by Norbert Dentressangle on behalf of Ikea – the other three are at Doncaster, Metz in France and Oosterhout in the Netherlands.
The new facility has created more than 500 new jobs in the area and incorporates two operations, a 60,000sq m DC serving Ikea stores throughout the UK and a 26,000sq m customer distribution centre (CDC) to handle the packing and distribution of orders direct to Ikea customers via a network of UK distribution hubs.
More than 5,000 Ikea products will be supplied from all over the world and stored on 112,500 pallets for onward delivery to stores. The CDC has a 27,600 pallet capacity, with Dentressangle responsible for the pick and pack.
