The combination of double deep pallet racking and a mezzanine with Longspan shelving has provided envelope company Bong UK with an efficient storage solution which fills the gap between its two existing buildings in Milton Keynes. It is the first time that Bong UK’s headquarters, factory and warehouse have been brought together under one roof.
The storage solution was supplied and implemented by Linpac Storage Solutions. Kevin McMahon, warehouse and logistics manager for Bong UK, explains: “Initially five companies were in the running, but they were quickly narrowed down to two. We chose Linpac Storage Systems because their racking was the best quality for the price and we found them more than helpful on the planning side.”
McMahon continues: “Our goalposts kept moving, but Linpac were open and receptive to the changes – in fact they ended up supplying eight different detailed technical drawings for the job.”
The greenfield section between the buildings was levelled out to create a new 1,491sq m building. Double deep racking with a top beam level of 8.85m was installed to give sufficient storage for 50 million-plus envelopes. The pallet racking has been fitted out with open boarded timber decking to allow storage of different sized pallets.
In the warehouse facility, a mezzanine with one hour fire-rated partitioning and ceiling was constructed. Engineers who maintain the factory machinery have their workshop underneath the mezzanine.
