Sandwiches supplier The Sandwich Factory (TSFL) has been supplied with materials handling equipment by Toyota forklift distributor M&W Toyota Handling to support increased production and safety at its site in Atherstone, Warwickshire.
Gas forklifts with 1.8 tonne lifting capacity and a powered pallet truck are offering safety features and increased productivity through Toyota’s System of Active Stability (SAS).
Andrew Dodd, goods-in manager at TSFL, says: “Our business has experienced significant growth which made us review our materials handling equipment. This is a 35,000sq ft site which produces more than 650,000 sandwiches per week, with capacity for up to 1.4 million. We needed reliable, safe and durable materials handling equipment that will ensure we continually increase productivity and support our intensive loading and unloading schedule.”
M&W Toyota’s Andy Price says: “We completed a thorough health and safety survey of TSFL’s previous materials handling equipment and it was clear that it simply could not support the company’s increasing levels of production. We demonstrated the Toyota range and explained how SAS protects drivers and loads, as well as increases productivity through a series of leading-edge features.
“One example is a feature that temporarily locks the swinging motion of the rear axle, which helps prevent the vehicle from tipping over when manoeuvring around corners. This greater stability helps the operator concentrate on the job and reduces stress associated with operating an unstable forklift.”
