Thales has launched a new in-vehicle messaging and navigation system to enable car, van and commercial vehicle fleet operators to communicate more effectively with their drivers. The Thales Messaging System (TMS) uses Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) technology and is designed to offer fleet operators a cost-effective messaging solution that provides both flexibility and improved user interface.
TMS is a two-way communication system enabling drivers to send and receive messages through a hand-held PDA. It offers a messaging solution ranging from pre-defined announcements to freeform text using the on-screen keyboard. For more complex needs, customised forms can be designed with up to five separate fields to log additional delivery details or status information.
The application can also incorporate a barcode scanner to support a real-time proof of delivery capability.
TMS can also be linked with routeing software to offer an effective navigational tool. Precise positional data is taken from the telematics unit installed within the vehicle to give the driver details of current location and turn-by-turn directions at the final destination.
