PD Logistics has signed a three-year contract with Expamet Building Products (EBP) and IG to manage UK distribution from their manufacturing plants at Hartlepool in Teesside, and Cwmbran, South Wales. The £7M contract starts in January 2005 and as well as delivering product from the two manufacturing sites, PD Logistics will consolidate deliveries for the Midlands, East Anglia and South of England at a newly implemented hub facility at Crick Business Park near J18 of the M1.
The PD Logistics solution improves upon the current delivery service to EBP’s and IG’s customer base, who will now receive deliveries of builders’ metalwork product and steel lintels on nominated days. To achieve the improved service levels demanded by EBP, product will be trunked between the sites overnight and trans-shipped for final delivery the following day.
As a further service level enhancement, all vehicles will be fitted with PD Logistics’ standard real-time tracking system, to enable the contract team to respond accurately to enquiries from customers on progress of their delivery.
Under the new agreement, PD Logistics is supplying eight 17-tonne GVW rigid vehicles and eight tractor units as well as 14 double-deck trailers in EBP livery and 20 drivers.
