Window profile manufacturer Fersina Systems has seen an increase in speed and efficiency at its national distribution centre in South Yorkshire having installed cantilever racking, supplied by Pro-Dek Storage Systems.
The u-PVC profiles were previously block-stacked in the warehouse which was inconvenient and difficult to organise – staff often had to move several stillages to reach the required profiles.
Designed by Pro-Dek, the new racking allows an existing sideloader to be used to handle stock while maximising storage volumes. Aisles are 2.5m wide and racking columns range from 4.5m high at the eaves to 6m at the roof apex. The tallest columns provide seven storage positions.
The installation caters for 280 separate locations for the stillages, which are 6m long, 1m deep and 600mm high and each supported by four 1,050mm arms. The arms are connected to the columns by heavy-duty pins with a quickrelease system to enable easy adjustment in 76mm increments.
