Kellogg Company has expanded its alliance with DHL Solutions in Europe – DHL has taken over the cereal producer’s German logistics centre in Bremen, handling both national transport and the facility’s management. The outsourcing project is part of Kellogg’s overall European strategy. It has worked with DHL in France, Italy, Spain and the Benelux countries for years.
Rainer Frerich, head of supply chain at the Kellogg Company, says: “We wanted a one-stop solution and a well established European network. DHL gives us both. The innovative logistics strategy offers Kellogg direct shipment distribution from the production sites for its European markets, creating a flexible system which allows for centralised or decentralised shipping according to need. This will provide us with considerable advantages in the area of customer service, and add a higher level of transparency in the processes and goods despatch.”
The high-bay warehouse, with storage space for some 32,000 pallets, is located on the premises of Kellogg’s production facility in Bremen. Hundreds of thousands of pallets, comprising 450 different products, are handled a year from this site and shipped to more than 50 countries worldwide.
