Wallenius Lines has placed an additional order for three new Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) that will be among the biggest in the world. The 228m long vessels will be capable of carrying 8,000 cars.
Earlier this year, Wallenius ordered three ships with a capacity of 6,500 cars and announced that it was to extend five of the fleet’s Boheme-class vessels by 28m to 228m, increasing their capacity by 20% to 7,100 cars.
The combined investment in the new and lengthened vessels will be US$450M.
The first two new vessels, with a cargo capacity of 6,700 cars, will be delivered at the end of 2006. The other three, each with a cargo capacity of 8,000 cars, will be delivered in late 2007 and early 2008.
