EGSAC – the consortium of independent GSSA companies – has appointed Ton Smulders as vice president. He replaces Don Champion of UK-based Wexco Airfreight, who has served in this post since EGSAC’s launch in early 2002. Smulders is managing Director of Schiphol-based Active Airline Representatives, which represents 19 airlines including Aeroflot and the Leisure Cargo group. He has worked as a GSSA and charter broker for his entire 28-year airfreight career, forming his own GSSA company in 1993. EGSAC’s president, Glauco Martinelli, has been re-elected for a further year.
Pulp and paper company Kruger has recruited pallet pool specialist LPR to manage its UK pallet provision in a deal with will oversee 250,000 movements a year throughout the UK. Using LPR’s ‘one-way trip’ operation, Kruger will collect 100% fit-for-use pallets and take them to its Manchester distribution centre. From there the pallets are used to transport bathroom tissue and paper towels to retailer regional distribution centres as well as direct to stores. LPR then collects the empty pallets from drop-points for servicing and repair.
Halesowen-based Entec International has received a $3M Letter of Credit (LOC) from a leading drinks company in Nigeria for the provision of its eProcurement and logistics solutions. It is the second LOC that Entec has received from Nigeria within 12 months to provide such solutions for the company’s Maintenance Repair and Operations. Entec’s order and enquiry management system offers the breadth and depth of functionality needed to integrate with a variety of ERP and Asset care systems.
