Fine paper producer M-real has invested in two Nu-Star Reel Pushers at its paper mill in Sittingbourne, Kent. The reel pushers, supplied by Nu-Star Material Handling, have speeded up the production process as well as removed the risk of back injuries to staff.
M-real, which produces more than 200,000 tonnes of coated and uncoated paper a year at the Sittingbourne mill, uses the reel pushers to move 1.3 diameter paper reels from the paper winder into an automated floor track or a temporary holding area. The paper reels weigh up to three tonnes.
The company opted for the pushers after staff commented about the effort required to push the reels by hand, especially when the reels come off the winder and get locked next to one another. A long lever was sometimes used to get the reels moving.
