Thamesport (London) is using seven new Terberg terminal tractors, from UK dealer Transtec Equipment, in addition to the four that arrived at the port in May. A further eight are due for delivery to the Medway facility in March 2005, completing the total order of 19.
The port currently has 35 terminal tractors operating on site. With a total area of 85 hectares, this injection of new equipment, to replace older, less efficient machines, will ensure faster turnaround times to and from the yard and quay.
David Gledhill, chief operating officer of Thamesport, comments: “These new vehicles represent a major investment to enhance operational efficiency at Thamesport. They will enable us to provide the necessary level of resources to meet the requirements of our customers well into the future.”
The terminal tractors feature powerful 4×2 drivelines suitable for handling heavy cargo up to Gross Combination weights of 75 tons.
