Janssen-Cilag, part of healthcare company Johnson & Johnson, has renewed a contract with Exel for the third-party logistics company to continue operating UK warehousing and distribution for its medical products range. The two organisations have worked together for the past eight years.
From its specialist pharmaceutical multi-user site at Cherwell, Banbury, Exel provides logistics services for the Janssen-Cilag product portfolio including chilled (2-8°C), ambient, controlled drugs, animal, aerosol and promotional products to outlets including hospitals, pharmacies, wholesalers, retail outlets, veterinary practices and their field salesforce.
In total, the contract includes inbound delivery of 12,000 pallets, receiving and handling 100,000 orders and the despatch of 35 million units each year. In addition, Exel provides Janssen-Cilag with a range of value-added services including temperature-controlled storage, quality control and inspection, clean room assembly and secure controlled drug storage.
lExel has won an additional three-year contract to manage a new 30,000sq m genuine parts facility in Gerfmany’s Kassel area for Volkswagen. At the new warehouse Exel will receive, store, pick and despatch aftermarket (spare) parts either to Volkswagen’s global
Genuine Parts Centre or directly to VW’s national and international distribution centres and wholesalers.
