Luxury carpet manufacturer Adam Carpets has opted for a new Daf chassis equipped with Abel Straight Lift demountable equipment and three new demountable boxes as part of a plan to further improve the delivery service offered to customers. All the equipment is on a five-year full service contract hire deal with Fraikin.
The fleet expansion follows an order for similar equipment last year when Adam Carpets took its national distribution operation back in-house which, according to production manager Chris Adam, made “a dramatic improvement in our customer service”. Then, the company took delivery of six new 11-tonne Daf chassis with Abel Straight Lift demountable equipment, two centre axle drawbar trailers with Abel demountable equipment, and ten demountable box bodies, also on contract hire from Fraikin.
Adam says: “The demountable equipment from Abel has significantly improved our efficiency. We can load boxes during the day, without the driver and vehicle standing idle waiting, or operatives having to work overnight, to be ready for delivery the following morning. Compared to a fixed vehicle system, the demountable option gave us much more flexibility, and also offered significantly lower overhead costs, as we need only half as many vehicles as boxes.”
Adam Carpets delivers high-quality British wool carpets to more than 1,000 retailers across England and south Wales from its Kidderminster manufacturing site.
