Laddaw, one of the largest automotive glass wholesalers and distributors in the UK, has installed Linpac Storage Systems racking to solve a storage challenge at a 12,000sq m warehouse and distribution centre to house windscreens, bodyglass and trims for cars, commercial vehicles and plant.
As part of its expansion plans, Laddaw has amalgamated four sites – two DCs, a specialist plant glass centre and a sales office – into the purpose-built site in Bardon, Leicestershire.
Linpac’s solution at the site provides 8,000 bulk locations for crates of windscreens and more than 20,000 pick locations which include “ingeniously designed” multi-racks to hold the slower moving screens. In total there are 55 runs of racking, the majority being 57m long. Each run as seven beam levels, with the top beam located at 10.5m.
The fastest selling screens are stored at ground level within their wooden delivery crates – the front of the crate is opened up so that the pick is made direct from the crate. Slower moving screens are stored in the multi-racks above the crates at first beam level, while the bodyglass is held in a separate area with special beams housing metal dividing rods.
