Vesuvius UK, a leading refactory supplier to the iron, steel, glass and ceramic industries, has taken delivery of seven new Volvo FH12 tractor units from Volvo dealer Crossroads Truck & Bus of Rotherham on a three-year contract hire deal. The trucks are the firm’s first Volvo’s for many years.
“The dealer was able to give us a very good deal on the specification we wanted and the back-up we needed,” says transport manager Alan Evans. “Our main priorities were reliability and driver comfort and Volvo fulfil both requirements well. The room in the cab is ideal for the long distance work we do, with our drivers out between two and four nights a week. It’s all about driver retention.”
The 44-tonne GCW artics are based at Vesuvius’ Chesterfield site, but will service the company’s five factories across the UK, transporting products to steel and aluminium businesses.
The company has obtained new Boalloy curtainsided trailers on contract hire to go for use with the Volvos.
