Belgian group Interbrew says a need to cut distribution costs has led the decision to close Boddington’s brewery in Manchester, although it will continue cask production in the city. The brewery will close next year, with the loss of more than 50 jobs, as production transfers to Glasgow, Samlesbury in Lancashire and Magor in South Wales.
Interbrew says cutting distribution costs was behind the decision to move production of non-cask beers to other sites. Production of non-cask beers make up 90% of production at the Manchester brewery.
