J Sainsbury’s has a new supply chain director – Lawrence Christensen. He was previously group operations director of Safeway plc, prior to its takeover by Morrisons. Lawrence has joined Sainsbury’s until January 8, 2006 and will, during this time, focus on driving efficient operating performance throughout the supply chain including Sainsbury’s seven new distribution facilities. He will also help to recruit his long-term successor.
Justin King, Sainsbury’s chief executive, says: “I’m delighted we have secured someone of Lawrence’s calibre and experience. Having invested significantly in updating our supply chain infrastructure we now need to focus on detailed operational issues to ensure our customers see the benefit.”
Christensen has taken over from Martin White, who implemented the transformation work and has decided to pursue his career outside the company.
