Kuehne & Nagel (K&N) is to transport wine sourced by British Airways (BA) from the world’s major wine growing areas into the UK as part of a new agreement with the airline. The contract ensures that customers always have guaranteed availability of the range of fine wines provided on BA’s in-flight menus.
The agreement specifically covers import to the UK, from mainland Europe, South Africa, Australasia, South America and the US’ west coast, of goods under bond for subsequent consumption on board commercial flights. K&N is also looking after regional distribution direct to BA’s African caterers from South Africa and the Far East caterers, who are supplied directly from Australia.
In order to provide the wide range of management information required by BA, K&N is employing its IT system KNLogin to ensure complete visibility of inventory throughout the entire supply chain. The relationship will be managed through a dedicated key account team, providing one point of contact globally for all modes of transport (sea, air and overland) used in the shipment of the wine. Peter Hough, BA’s manager for Inflight Planning and Logistics, says: “Kuehne & Nagel’s experience in wine and inflight catering logistics convinced us that they could offer a reliable and cost-effective service. We are trusting them to deliver our wine on time to our customers across the world.”
