Castleford-based Lambsons Chemicals Group has signed a new five-year freight contract, worth about £9M, to DHL Freight. As part of the contract, DHL has invested £1.5M in a fleet of specialist vehicles in a bespoke plan unique to Lambsons.
DHL Freight has worked with Lambsons since 1997, and operates a dedicated transport fleet for delivering bulk and packaged products to customers nationwide. As part of the contract renewal and fleet selection process, DHL worked closely with Lambsons and Clayton Trailers on tank specification with safety, ease of use and capacity being the main considerations.
Tank specifications include ground level-operated valves, all round handrails and anti-roll braking systems. Also, new Scania 420 tractor units were specified for reliability, fuel efficiency and driver comfort.
Andrew Wieloch, commercial director of the Lambson Group, comments: “We are delighted to be working with DHL, who have satisfied our stringent safety criteria that are expected as standard by all of our customers. The introduction of air-operated valves allow all tanker operations to be controlled at ground level, however there are hand rails which totally enclose the catwalk if needed. In addition, the extra load size has resulted in traffic reduction by over 20%.”
