The Metro Group will be one of the first retailers in the world to use RFID throughout the entire logistics chain when the first phase of its roll-out is launched in November. Metro’s ambitious plans are based on research by Kurt Salmon Associates (KSA), the global management consulting and technology firm, which evaluated the impact of RFID on store processes, the major change management issues relating to implementation and the views from suppliers.
Among the statistics gleaned from the research, KSA discovered that at case level, benefits of RFID tagging could improve supply chain efficiency by 35%, out of stocks by 32% and shrinkage by 18%.
