Asda’s new 9,300sq m facility at AMEC Development’s flagship scheme Wakefield Europort is well underway, bringing the total amount of space occupied to more than 120,900sq m. The new accommodation will provide an Asda Service Centre (ASC) and IT facility, creating an additional 85 jobs at the development.
The ASC unit will provide a returnable tray-washing and loose equipment facility for Asda along with sorting of waste paper, cardboard and packaging from more than 40 local stores for recycling. Operated by Christian Salvesen, the new centre will support the adjacent Chilled Distribution Unit.
This expansion by Asda further reinforces Wakefield Europort’s position as a prime distribution park in the region, strategically located at J31 of the M62. The development benefits from both an excellent location equidistant between the M1 and A1 and a competitively priced and readily available labour force. Other occupiers include Wickes, Royal Mail, Scottish Courage and Linpac Plastics.
