The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has selected the Amey Lex Consortium (ALC) as the preferred bidder for its C Vehicle Capability Private Finance Initiative programme (PFI), the revenue for which is expected to be worth more than £500M over 15 years. The programme covers the provision of all construction vehicles, plant and equipment for engineering projects and equipment/material handling to the British Armed Forces.

C&H Sugar is using Catalyst International’s SAP WM wireless data collection solution to improve its inventory control. Lambsons Chemicals Group has awarded a £9M, five-year contract to DHL Freight to deliver bulk and packaged products to customers nationwide. DHL has invested £1.5M in a fleet of specialist vehicles for the chemicals company which provide increased load size, allowing a traffic reduction by more than 20%.
Autoglass UK has installed A-Fax plastic safety barriers at its new 12,000sq m distribution centre (DC) at Bardon, near Leicester, which is the first of several European DCs planned by the manufacturer. The contract covers the supply of all barriers needed at the centre for rack-end and walkway protection.
International decorative products company Swish is using a national pallet management service at its five depots. The contract, with Whirlowdale, involves handling more than 30,000 reconditioned pallets a year. Whirlowdale is operating a complete Palogistics pallet management system for Swish, which includes a bespoke method of recycling.
Lift trucks distribution Barloworld is using Alphabet (GB) to supply and manage its 900-strong fleet of vans and cars. Alphabet, the car and van leasing arm of BMW Group, will supply Barloworld with vehicles on full-maintenance contract hire in a fully outsourced management arrangement that includes accident management, daily rental and fuel management.
