Sun Chemical, which makes and stores inks and varnishes for the printing industry, has a new fleet of Hyster counterbalance and warehouse trucks from Barloworld Handling for operation in its Zone 1 factory and Zone 2 warehouse near Rochdale. The trucks have been modified by Pyroban to conform with the latest ATEX-compliant explosion protection technology.
The Rochdale warehouse, built in 1996, was designed in conjunction with Barloworld Handling in narrow aisle format to maximise use of the available space. Its 1,848sq m area and seven levels of racking allow it to accommodate 3,700 pallet positions. There are nine aisles up to a maximum length of 35m and 1,600mm width. The Zone 2 trucks are all equipped with Pyroban’s System 5000E (3G) explosion protection system, which detects gas and protects ignition sources.
The new fleet in Zone 2 comprise two E2.00XM electric counterbalance trucks, two Spectrum P2.50 powered pallet models and one Matrix R1.4 reach truck, and two C1.5B combi units. In addition, single H1.50XM and E2.50XM counterbalance trucks operate in the Zone 1 factory area.
Typical loads consist of drums, cans or specially designed IBCs, and vary in pallet size and weight up to one tonne.
