Cheshire Recycling is using PD Logistics to expand the kerbside recycling collection contract in the Liverpool City Council area. The contract follows on from the appointment in 2003 of PD Logistics to cover North Lincolnshire, which resulted in a 100% increase in the volume of paper collected. Cheshire Recycling, a recovered paper collector from domestic properties, is and independent business unit within Bridgewater Paper Group.
Operating as sub-contractor to Cheshire Recycling, PD Logistics services 130,000 properties within the Liverpool City Council boundary with a fortnightly collection schedule. The contract implementation involved door-drops to the public containing a letter, calendar and collection bag two weeks prior to the first collection of recyclable material. This launch was successfully achieved by using this part of the operation as a training exercise, and the process has been repeated during the roll-out of further stages.
As well as providing the collection service and the associated telephone helpline, PD Logistics is responsible for ensuring that public recycling banks are kept safe and tidy. PD Logistics operatives check recycling bank sites at supermarkets, community centres, sports centres and are responsible for removal of graffiti and reporting on full or damaged recycling banks.
