P&O Nedlloyd Logistics has implemented an innovative supply chain solution for leading Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Kawasaki Motors Europe (KME) to provide pan-European storage and distribution across northern Europe of all continental motorcycles and other HVCGs (High Value Consumer Goods, including ATVs, mules, utility vehicles, jet skis and power products).
Contract storage will be handled through logistics centres at Hamburg, Germany, and a location close to Marseilles, France. P&O Nedlloyd Logistics will also provide customs clearance services to KMW as well as warehousing, haulage and distribution across Germany, Scandinavia and Benelux.
Marc Heeren, business development manager at P&O Nedlloyd Logistics responsible for spearheading strategic expansion of this sector, describes the contract as substantial, adding that it represents a significant extension of the company’s long-term maritime involvement with KME. “Through the shipping business of P&O Nedlloyd, we have 30 years of experience in motorcycle distribution for the four major Japanese motorcycle manufacturers, and have been able to bring market intelligence, product knowledge and existing dealer relationships together to offer a convincing end-to-end maritime-intensive supply chain solution,” he says.
“Utilising our leading edge LogNet visibility system, we have developed a collaborative platform for multiple customers in this sector, increasing delivery frequency, reducing unnecessary inventory and thus driving costs out and efficiencies into the supply chain.”
P&O Nedlloyd has also secured new business from value fashion retailer The Peacock Group, strengthening an already extensive portfolio of retail accounts. The Group, which trades from two complimentary value brands, Peacocks and bonmarche, has been a customer of P&O Nedlloyd container shipping business for more than ten years, but was looking to improve control; and visibility of its supply chain, according to Tim Bruun, business development manager for P&O Nedlloyd Logistics. Therefore P&O Nedlloyd has been appointed as import supply chain partner for The Peacock Group.
