The revised version of the ELA’s ‘Terminology of Logistics’ is now available. In order to work effectively along physical and information chains, logistics professionals use a number of terms that, while in frequent use, are rarely defined.
Also, the wider dissemination of logistics concepts has brought about the creation of new terms and changes in meaning of older terms. These need to be understood throughout Europe.
This glossary of terms is an update and extension of the existing publication, and some terms now considered old-fashioned have been eliminated. A number of new terms have been added as a consequence of developments in the field.
As a result of the work done by the standardisation workgroup and the support of ELA national member associations, the glossary lists terms with a realistic relevance to logistics. They have been selected with stringent criteria and are defined by reference to their usage in European organisations, though some terms and definitions of American origin that have achieved widespread acceptance are also included.
Every logistician should have one in their library.
