Dublin-based haulier O’Reilly Transport (Heysham) has taken delivery of 15 new Volvo FH12 Globetrotters, making the mainland UK side of the company now 100% Volvo. The order takes O’Reilly’s count to 60 Volvos in the past three years alone, heralding a complete fleet replacement. Bought from Volvo Truck & Bus (North of Lancaster, O’Reilly previously preferred Volvo FM12 420 Globetrotters as the standard replacement vehicle, however driver comfort has swung the purchasing policy in favour of the much larger FH12 Globetrotter cab. O’Reilly specialises in delivering and collecting loads to and from Ireland daily, with each truck averaging some 90,000km per annum. Each of the new 15 Volvo FH12s are 6x2s with mid-lift axles, fleet trim and Volvo’s revolutionary new automated manual I-Shift gearboxes.
John Alderson, general manager at O’Reilly’s Heysham operation, says the total order amounted to 30 trucks, split between Heysham and Warren Point, Co. Down. “We also brought three identical FH12 420 Globetrotters and 12 FM12 420s for a specific contract in Northern Ireland.”
All of the new editions will pull O’Reilly’s fleet of more than 500 curtainsider and box trailers, the newest of which come from SDC.
The UK mainland company is moving to a new, larger depot in the North-west port town.
