Manor Bakeries and supply chain specialist Lloyd Fraser Contracts (LFC) have invested in 41 Mercedes-Benz Axor tractor units to replace the existing fleet, and significantly improve the logistics operation’s performance.
LFC, which recently won the Manor Bakeries contract following a competitive tender process, is delighted with the new units. Tim Williams, general manager at LFC, says: “We spent a number of months evaluating a selection of tractor units before making the decision on the Axor’s. We found that the Mercedes fuel economy was better than the others we looked at, and it also had several technological advantages for the driver.”
He continues: “The Mercedes really gives us the flexibility and efficiency that a contract like Manor Bakeries requires.”
The tractor units are based at the Carlton, Eastleigh, Rugby and Stoke distribution centres.
LFC joint managing director Philip Bincliffe says: “Our involvement within the purchasing decision for the trucks highlights the close working relationship we have with our customers.”
