Third-party logistics provider (3PL) Tibbett & Britten is handling all of PZ Cusson’s UK warehousing and distribution needs having won a £10M, three-year deal with the manufacturer and marketer of personal and household cleansing brands such as Imperial Leather, Morning Fresh, Original Source, Pearl and 1001. The work was previously handled in-house.
Tibbett began working with PZ Cussons last October when it provided temporary relief warehousing and distribution from its shared-user Beeston distribution centre near Leeds.
The new contract is based at Tibbett’s large Whitwood distribution centre near Pontefract, where it will occupy 11,000sq m of the shared-user facility. The Whitwood centre is licensed to store aerosols and features appropriate safety features such as sprinklers and fire-restricting chambers.
In addition to providing warehousing and distribution, Tibbett is also handling export preparation and contract packing services.
With volumes expected to reach about 17 million cases a year, Tibbett will make factory collections and deliver some 400 product lines nationwide to major retailers and wholesaler distribution centres using as mix of its existing transport facilities and bought-in services from approved contractors.
Commenting on outsourcing the logistics operation, PZ Cussons’ logistics director, Mike Johnson, says: “This move represents a significant change in the way we manage our logistics. We needed a professional partner with proven expertise in our sector who could really add value to our supply chain.”
